This page walks through the checkpoint editor itself: what changes depending on how a checkpoint starts, and how each tab works. For checkpoint statuses and other operations (Retire, Archive, Move, bulk actions), see Checkpoints. For the article writing tools, see Editing an article.

Landing on the checkpoint editor

You reach the same editor two ways, depending on whether the checkpoint already exists:
  • New checkpoint: creating a checkpoint lands you on it in Draft, with a single editing surface. Nothing is visible to employees until you click Activate.
  • Existing Active checkpoint: open it and click Propose Changes to get a two-tab view, Active Checkpoint and Proposed Changes. Make your edits on the Proposed Changes side; employees keep seeing the current Active version until you click Publish. Use Copy content from the active Checkpoint to start from what’s already live instead of from scratch.
Click Save to save as you go.
Changes aren’t saved automatically. Save periodically if you’re editing over a longer session.
Only one person can hold the edit lock at a time. If someone else is already editing, you’ll see who (with a live avatar) and can ask to take over.

Choosing how the checkpoint starts

When you create a checkpoint, you pick one of four starting points:
Upload a video of up to 5 minutes. The editor opens once it finishes processing.
Write the microlearning directly in exIQtive’s built-in editor. See Editing an article for the writing and formatting tools.
Skip microlearning and go straight to the inspection criteria. You can add microlearning later from within the checkpoint. This option includes a note field for prep instructions to the employee.
Assign the video upload to an employee instead of doing it yourself. The checkpoint waits in a pending-upload state, with reminders, until they deliver it.

The three tabs: Video/Article, Quiz, Inspection

Inside the editor, content is organized into up to three tabs. A mode setting on the checkpoint controls which tabs apply: Both (quiz and inspection), Skip inspection, or Skip quiz.
  • Video/Article: the microlearning itself. For a video, this is also where you generate and manage an AI-suggested breakdown (chapters or steps) from the footage once it’s ready.
  • Quiz: the multiple-choice questions an employee answers after completing the microlearning. See Quizzes for checkpoints.
  • Inspection: the criteria a Coach checks off while observing the employee do the work.
Each tab shows a validity indicator, so you can see at a glance whether it has what it needs before you activate or publish.

Version history

Every time you activate or publish, exIQtive creates a new version. Open the version history to see past versions, the publish note for each, and an automatically generated summary of what changed.

Activate vs. publish

Discarding your edits

To throw away what you’ve started, use Discard Draft (or the equivalent on Proposed Changes):
  • For a checkpoint that was never activated, this deletes it outright.
  • For proposed changes to an Active checkpoint, it drops your edits and leaves the live version untouched.
