Your organization in exIQtive is the structure of your employees, the positions they hold, and the work each position is responsible for. It’s the foundation everything else builds on: Readiness, badges, and inspections all flow from how your organization is set up.

The three building blocks

Every position in your organization is described with three things.

Position

A position is a job in your organization, such as Production Manager, Shift Supervisor, or Customer Support Lead. When you assign an employee to a position, they automatically receive everything the position includes.

Role

A role is a reusable group of responsibilities, such as Scheduler, Budget Owner, or Recruiter. You can attach several roles to one position, and the same role can appear in many positions, so you only define it once.

Responsibility

A responsibility is a specific area of work someone must be able to perform, such as Schedule Staff, Define Jobs, or Hire Candidates. Responsibilities are what exIQtive inspects and certifies against; they’re the unit of readiness.

How it connects

The chain is simple: Position → Role → Responsibility → Employee. When you assign an employee to a position, they automatically receive every role and responsibility attached to it, including responsibilities attached directly to the position. You don’t assign anything individually; the structure does the work for you.

A real-life example

Your organization is Café Delight, with three positions: Barista, Shift Supervisor, and Store Manager.
  • The Barista position includes the Customer Service role, which has three responsibilities: Take Orders, Prepare Drinks, and Clean Equipment. When you assign Anna to Barista, she automatically gets all three.
  • The Shift Supervisor position includes both the Customer Service role and the Leadership role. When you assign Leo to Shift Supervisor, he gets Anna’s three responsibilities plus the leadership ones, like Manage Inventory.
Same roles, defined once, reused across both positions.

Common questions

Both work. When a responsibility belongs to only one position, attach it directly to that position. When a group of responsibilities is shared by several positions, put them in a role: you attach the whole bundle to as many positions as need it, and update it in one place when anything changes. See Attach responsibilities directly to positions.
Yes. Roles are shared across positions. Add or remove a responsibility from a role and every position that includes it picks up the change automatically, along with every employee assigned to those positions.
Yes, and most do. A Shift Supervisor might have a Customer Service role and a Leadership role; employees in that position get the responsibilities from both.
