# Email notifications

> Every email exIQtive may send you, what triggers it, and what to do when you get it.

exIQtive emails you when something important happens, so you always know where you stand without checking in constantly. Notifications go to the email address linked to your account and are sent automatically.

## Position assignment notifications

These tell you when your place in the organization changes.

| What happens | What the email tells you | What to do |
| - | - | - |
| You're assigned to a position | Who assigned you, the position name, and your commitment level (Primary or Preparing for). You now hold the responsibilities that come with this position. | Log in to see your responsibilities and start preparing. Check your Readiness view to see where you stand on each one. |
| You're relieved from a position | Which position you've been relieved from. Its responsibilities are no longer assigned to you. | Nothing. Your badge history for those responsibilities is kept, but they no longer appear in your active view. |

## Badge notifications

These keep you informed about your Readiness badges, the certifications that prove your competence for each responsibility.

### When a badge is issued

| What happens | What the email tells you | What to do |
| - | - | - |
| You earn a badge after inspection (Apprentice or Proficient) | The responsibility, the badge level, and who inspected you. This is the formal record of your certification. | Nothing; congratulations. Your Readiness has updated. If you're an Apprentice, keep preparing toward Proficient. |
| You're given a badge without inspection (the responsibility has no active checkpoints) | The responsibility, the badge level, and who issued it. Badges can be given only when a responsibility has no active checkpoints. | Nothing. Your Readiness has updated. |
| Your badge level is raised without inspection (responsibility has no checklist) | The responsibility, the level you moved from, and the level you moved to. | Nothing. Your Readiness has updated. |

### When a badge is removed or invalidated

| What happens | What the email tells you | What to do |
| - | - | - |
| An administrator removes your badge | Which badge was removed, its level, and the reason the administrator recorded. Your Readiness for this responsibility drops to 0%. | Read the reason. To regain certification, contact your Coach to schedule an inspection. |
| Your badge is invalidated because a checklist was introduced | Which badge was removed and why: an Architect created an Inspection Protocol for this responsibility, so the basis for your earlier badge (no checklist at the time) no longer holds. Your Readiness drops to 0%. | Study the Inspection Protocol and request an inspection from your Coach. That's the only way to recover certification on a responsibility that now has a checklist. |

### When a badge becomes Obsolete or is restored

A badge becomes **Obsolete** when the Inspection Protocol is updated and you have outstanding checkpoints you haven't passed yet. You get a grace period to complete them. See [The Badge Ladder](/user-guide/readiness/badge-ladder) for details.

| What happens | What the email tells you | What to do |
| - | - | - |
| Your badge becomes Obsolete | The badge, the expiration date (end of the grace period), and exactly which checkpoints are outstanding. The badge is still valid and still counts toward your Readiness, but the clock has started. | Work through the outstanding checkpoints: study the updated institutional knowledge, take the Quizzes, and pass those checkpoints in an inspection. Once they're all done, your badge restores automatically overnight. |
| Reminder: your badge is about to expire | Days left, the expiration date, and the checkpoints still outstanding. Sent once, a set number of days before the grace period ends. | Act now. You still have time to complete the checkpoints and keep your badge. |
| Your badge is restored to In Good Standing | Which badge was restored, the date it had been set to expire, and confirmation that it no longer has an expiration date. | Nothing; well done for finishing in time. |
| Your badge expires | Which badge expired because the grace period ended while it was still Obsolete. Your Readiness for this responsibility drops to 0%. | You'll need a full inspection to be recertified. Contact your Coach to get started. |

<Tip>
  Restoration runs once a day, overnight. If you finish your checkpoints today, expect the "restored" email tomorrow morning.

## Access notifications

These relate to your ability to log in. See [Account users](/account/account-users) for more on access statuses.

| What happens | What the email tells you | What to do |
| - | - | - |
| You're invited to join an account | Who invited you, the account name, and a link to sign up and set your password. | Click the link to sign up. It expires, so don't wait too long. If it has expired, ask your administrator to resend the invitation. |
| Your access is suspended | Which account your access was suspended for. You can no longer log in to it. | Contact your account Owner or Co-Owner if you think this is a mistake. |
| Your access is restored | Which account your access was restored for, and a link to log back in. | Log in using the link in the email. |

## Common questions

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="I'm not receiving notifications. What should I check?">
    First check your spam or junk folder. If they're not there, check that your email address is correct in the system. Your account Owner or Co-Owner can verify and update it from the Account Users page.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I turn off specific notifications?">
    Not at the moment. exIQtive sends these emails automatically, and you can't turn individual notifications on or off.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I got a “badge invalidated by checklist” email. What does that mean?">
    An Architect created an Inspection Protocol for a responsibility you were certified on without one. Your old badge was removed because its basis (no checklist at the time) is no longer true, so you now need a formal inspection to be recertified. It isn't a judgment on your competence; the standard for the responsibility has simply been properly defined.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I completed my checkpoints but haven't received a “restored” email. Did it work?">
    Restoration runs once a day, overnight, so expect the email the next morning. If it hasn't arrived after 24 hours, check your badge standing in Your Stuff, and contact your Coach or administrator if something looks wrong.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The email says an administrator removed my badge. Why?">
    The reason the administrator recorded is in the email. If you have questions, talk to your administrator or manager. To get recertified, contact your Coach to schedule an inspection.
  </Accordion>
